Hello, Effects Fans!
Today we announce our new VibraThrob vibrato module. But if you look closely, you'll see a switch labeled "Phasing". Toggle that switch and your vibrato becomes a 2-stage phaser. Yes, a two-fer! To turn vibrato into phaser, you add back in the original dry signal and combine it with the wet signal. The Throb knob lets you control the amount of dry signal in the phaser mix. It goes from almost no dry signal to almost all dry signal. With only two stages, you won't get the over-the-top craziness you can find with effects that have more stages. While this circuit doesn't "compare to" any commercial pedals, it is probably most similar to the MXR P-45 phaser when you turn on the phasing. Both the phaser and vibrato go from mild to chunky, medium levels of effect, with pretty much the entire range of adjustment yielding usable tones. The Speed and Depth knobs behave as you would expect.
This is a very pleasant vibrato/phaser. Plug in some clean tones and you can lose an entire afternoon before you realize it. Mix it with other effects, and you'll probably lose the evening, too. While the effect is more mild than wild, you'll find some pleasing Leslie, Univibe, and other familiar sounds lurking in there, just a slight adjustment away. Of course, with only two stages, you won't get the heavy version of those sounds. Instead, you get something a bit lighter, more useful in more situations, something that can be on nearly all the time to put some nice movement into your tone. And, BTW, it has much less noise than most vibrato or phaser effects, with hardly any noise at all even on the maximum settings. That makes it work extra-well with clean tones, giving you a little somethin'-somethin' to freshen up your pop, rock, blues, or country licks when things start getting a little stale. Try it on The Dark Side of the Moon...
